1 Day Snorkel & Sandboard
Departs Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun
Includes
Experience two of the most popular activities on Moreton Island!
- Our Moreton Island Snorkel and Sandboarding tour starts with a luxury cruise across beautiful Moreton Bay to Moreton Island. On arrival we board our 4WD and drive off the ferry directly on to the beach. Moreton Island is the worlds third largest sand island of which 98% is a protected National Park, with no sealed roads, 4WD is the only mode of transport!
- Travelling by 4WD along Middle Road, we pass through thick eucalypt forest, featuring beautiful Xanthorrhoea (Grass Trees) up to 250 years old on our way to The Desert, the home of Sand Boarding.
- Sand boarding and tobogganing is an awesome fun, high speed and high adrenalin activity and speeds of up to 50km/h can be reached. From beginners, young children and families, to the most adventurous adrenalin junkie, The Desert is the perfect place to learn, or fine tune, your sand boarding skills. This open sand dune is shaped every day by winds that form the perfect wave. Make sure you bring your camera to get plenty of impressive shots!
- While a fresh picnic lunch is prepared by your guide take a moment to relax on the white sandy beach. Go for a leisurely walk or swim, or take some time out to sunbake.
- After lunch we take you on a guided snorkel around the Tangalooma Shipwrecks. With 15 shipwrecks located just 50m off the beach, the Tangalooma Shipwrecks are home to one of Queensland’s most diverse marine eco systems. See a huge range of marine life including Butterbrim, blue and orange banded Parrotfish, Big Eye Trevally, Wobbegong, Blue-Tang Surgeonfish (Dory) and Clown Fish (Nemo)!
- For those people who are not strong swimmers or do not wish to snorkel, Kayaking around the Shipwrecks is a fantastic alternative option. View these magnificent shipwrecks from above the water for a completely different outlook on Moreton Bay and its spectacular scenery. Kayaking may also be offered as an alternative to snorkelling should conditions be unfavourable.
- Regrettably, we finish the day with our return to the ferry for a luxury cruise back to Brisbane.
Please note: Snorkelling is subject to tide and weather conditions and may change without notice. In the interest of passenger safety Moreton Bay Escapes reserve the right to substitute scheduled activities. Mount Tamborine 1 day tour
Departs Tue, Thurs, Sat
Includes
- Tamborine Mountain’s magnificent valleys, distant mountain ranges and tropical rainforests provide a peace and tranquility that is a complete contrast to the every day noise and demands on our time.
- The day starts with a scenic drive to Mount Tamborine MacDonald National Park. Enjoy morning tea in peaceful surroundings.
- Our first walk of the day is the 1.4km (approx 40 min) MacDonald rainforest circuit. This mostly flat walk takes in Giant Strangler Figs, Hoop Pine, Giant Buttress trees, and an idyllic creek crossing, and is ideal for birdwatchers.
- Next we take a 2.6km (approx 1 hour) Sandy Creek and Cameron Falls circuit walk. Scenic views, piccabeen palm groves, rainforest with tall trees emerging above the surrounding canopy, and Cameron Falls Lookout all feature on this walk.
- A fresh and delicious picnic lunch is prepared by your tour guide in the middle of a beautiful setting at Knoll National park.
- Following lunch, we journey to Joalah National Park. Joalah is an Aboriginal word meaning “haunt of the lyrebird”. The loud calls of the male Albert’s lyrebird can be heard during winter. Walk through rainforest and descend steep stairs to a large pool at the base of Curtis Falls. There is an impressive view of the falls and surrounding columnar basalt rock face (1.5km approx 30 min).
- Our last activity today is to visit the Mount Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk. In a setting of 30 private acres of magnificent rainforest alongside a kilometer of tumbling creek and rockpools, this walkway is a stable, high-tech steel structure enabling visitors to explore the beautiful middle and upper canopies of the rainforest. It descends gradually to the lower canopy to rock pools and waterfalls, and a butterfly lookout.
- The Cantilever is a 40 metre long span soaring 30 metres above the valley, with spectacular views over the creek and the rainforest canopies below.
- This brings us to the end of our day and reluctantly we take you back to your accommodation.
